To address this, the law has been changed to require schools to arrange full-time education from and including the sixth day of any period of fixed period exclusion of six days or longer.”

Usage thus far tends to be for 2 to 5 day exclusions and experience suggests that exclusions that go into longer periods produce negligible amounts of work online as there is insufficient sanction or expectation to log in and work everyday. Where the pupil feels that he or she has a stake in returning to school as soon as possible, there is a clear motivational factor in satisfying the school that they have made the most of the facility.
